Simple Chocolate Smoothie

This was the smoothie that I made today at the Natural Way Demo which was enjoyed by all;

1 cup of cacao powder
1 cup of shelled hemp seeds
1 banana
1 cup of dates
3 cups of water
1 tbs of green mix (optional)
1 handful of kale (or spinach)
A handful of ice

Place all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth, then serve!


Berry Mousse

This is so simple and delicious and a great way to use blackberries.

2 cups blackberries (or any other berry you want to use)
1 cup pre soaked and drained cashew nuts
1/2 cup coconut milk
1 tbs coconut oil
1 avocado
1 cup of dates

Place all of the ingredients in a food processor or blender and blend until smooth. Taste and, if needed, add a sweetener of your choice. Place in the fridge for 30 mins and then serve.


Baby Green Juice

Well, Eliah is now nearly 10 months old and he has entered a new phase of food in the last few days, he wants to do it himself! This is great, it means that he is growing, becoming more independent, but I am not sure how much goodness he is actually getting.
So I have started to give him a green juice with his meals.

Todays recipe (which went down very well);
1/2 a pear
1/2 an avocado
3 inches of courgette (fresh from the garden)
1 handful of goji berries
1 cup of water.

Blend all ingredients together until smooth and serve. This made two portions.


Super rainbow juice for all the family

20130501-141831.jpgI really think that if you start the day with good nutrition you are onto a winner.

Not only that but I like to know that I have given my children a blast of goodness so that I don’t worry about what they eat for the rest of the day so much!

So this is my family rainbow juice, I try to put as many colours in it as I can;

1 tbs pumpkin seeds (high in efa’s and anti-parasitic, great for the digestion)
1 tbs ground flax seeds (high in efa’s, giving the brain a great start)
1 tbs de-shelled hemp seeds (more efa’s)
1 carrot
1 apple
1 pear
A handful of raw red cabbage
A handful of kale
1 raw beetroot
1 banana
1 cup of water
And anything else you want to throw in!

I use the Vitamix blender (although any blender will do!) and then strain through a muslin bag, serve and drink.


Creamy green juice

j with vitamixI have just made this today as a part of my detox and it really hit the spot!
It was creamy and delicious and made me feel so deliciously full and satisfied…. oh, and my children loved it too!

1 orange (juiced)
2 cups of kale
1/2 a lettuce
1/2 inch of ginger
1 apple
1 carrot
1 stalk of celery
1/2 cup of de-shelled hemp seeds (wonderful omega hit here)
1/2 cup of cashews

I used a blender for this and then strained it through, you would need a high powered one. Alternatively, use a juicer first and then blend the nuts and seeds into juice.


Pineapple Delight

This is a great juice for a hot day like today. If you can, use the core of the pineapple as this is where a lot of the goodness is (you can find Bromelain there which is great for the digestion). Pineapples are also very high in vitamin C and manganese, a trace mineral that helps with energy production.

Ingredients;
1/2 a pineapple (chopped into small pieces with the skin cut off),
1/2 a banana,
1/2 a cup of shelled hemp seeds (great for the brain),
2 cups of filtered/spring water
1/2 a cup of ice

Place all of the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth, pour and enjoy this delicious, refreshing drink.


Kids Favourite Simple Smoothie

This is my kids favourite smoothie at the moment!
It’s really simple and a great way to start the day.

Ingredients;
1/2 cup of shelled hemp seeds (excellent source of essential fats)
1/2 cup of pumpkin, sunflower and flax seeds (ground)
1 banana (a great way to sweeten and good slow release energy)
2 cups of water (you can use coconut water if you feel the need for extra hydration)
1/2 cup of kale or spinach leaves (you don’t notice the taste of these at all)
1/4 cup of dates

Optional additions;
1 tsp super greens (such as marine phytoplankton, which contains all essential minerals for the body)
1 tsp reishi, chaga and lions mane mushroom ( immune regulators, adaptogens and all around incredible foods) 

Place all ingredients into a blender until smooth, pour and drink!


Peppermint Patties

I love these, they are light and delicious and go great after a meal. I served them at my last super-food feast and they were a great success.

Biscuit Part;
2 cups ground almonds
1/2 cup cacao powder
1 cup coconut sugar, or 2 tsp stevia if wanting a sugar free option
1/2 cup coconut oil melted
handful of fresh mint leaves

Mint Filling;
1 cup desiccated coconut (unsweetened)
1/2 cup coconut oil melted
1/2 cup liquid sweetener i like maple syrup or raw local honey
10 drop peppermint extract

To make the base place all of the dry ingredients in the food processor and mix well, including the mint leaves. Then, add in the coconut oil and mix until it’s like a dough. Whatever shape you want to make, only use half of the mix as you will need to do a top and bottom. Put the mix into tin and place in the freezer to set. Once one of the layers has set then repeat the same thing so you will have the top and bottom ready for the mint filling.

Place the coconut into the blender and blend until it is as fine a powder as can be, then mix in the other ingredients. This will be your middle layer.

Place in the freezer to set together for 30 mins.
